new york, new york. 1899
Pretty girls in pretty dresses, handsome gentleman to escort them down the stairs and into the ballroom for a night of fun, where there is no such thing as inhibitions. Toast your friends while sipping champagne shipped in from Sweden just for the occasion. Gush about the latest fashions coming out from France, and gossip about the state of Timothy and Bessy's engagement. Tomorrow, things will be just the same as they were this morning. But tonight, you are on the arm of a grinning bachelor, and nothing hurts you as long as you hurt nothing. Good luck.

joining
proboards allows you to join under any name and change the display name, so no worries about that. Your display name should be your character's first and last name, middle optional, in lower case, please and thank you
If you're playing a canon, be sure to reserve him/her before working on the application, just to be sure that nobody else beats you to him/her
First impressions are a must! A good application gets you a sticky star from me!
No posting in any of the in-character boards until you're accepted
You must have a 100x100 avatar and a signature graphic/icons in order to be accepted. A 'coming soon' in your signature will work as well, if you must. Please do not stretch the board with your signature! If you do, I'll re size it and you'll be getting a nice little pm.

While original characters rock my sox, I'd love it if you check out the canon characters first to see if there's anyone there you'd like to adopt. If we eventually get a horribly uneven original-to-canon ratio, I shall be putting a temporary ban on originals.
I've known a few people online that create nothing but bucket loads of female characters and then post sob stories in the chat box about how they need a love interest. Quite simply - don't do this. The excuse 'I'm a girl and can't play guys' is stupid and baseless. To curb this I'm enforcing a two - to - one ratio per person on female and male characters, if you're a girl. That means, if your first two characters are female, the next has to be male and so on. Cross me on this and incur my wrath! Muahaha.
There is no specific limit on how many characters you can create. It's just highly recommended that you don't take more than you can handle. And while I'm pushing canon-lovin' one we can't have one person playing them all. We have a two canon maximum per person unless otherwise approved by me, and they both must be of opposite genders. Oh yeah. I'm bad.
NO MARY/GARY-SUES! LET'S SEE SOME FLAWS, PEOPLE!
role-playing
I consider this an intermediate-to-advance site, and as is such would love to see a minimum 400 words per post, or at least three good long paragraphs. We all have our off-days, but if lack of length becomes a common thing, you'll be getting a cute little pm from yours truly.
No god-moding. 'Nuff said.
Content is a tricky subject. Because a big slice of the Luxe fan base and I presume my site members, including me, are under the age of eighteen, I would reeealy prefer that you don't keep it uber-detailed and graphic, but I have different criteria for different subjects.
VIOLENCE is probably going to be a part of life whether you like it or not. Of course, fighting and etc are allowed, we just don't need to hear about how Bill cracked Bob's humerus in half, causing bone splinters to pierce through the skin. I think that goes without saying...
LANGUAGE. Dude. I think our generation knows every single word in the book, but it wasn't nearly as common back in the Victorian era as it is now. Of course, it's also a part of life and I have nothing against the use of language as long as it's used in a constructive way. We don't need to hear about how effed those effing effers are. I think that goes without saying as well...
HANKY-PANKY. On this, I would REEAALLY prefer that when things get hot and heavy you just skip the scene and move on to when the deed is done. Like I said, big fan base chunk under the age of eighteen. You never know when your mother might be reading over your shoulder. But if you really feel that you must do this, but a big honking warning in the thread title and I give myself permission to put something maniacal in your personal user title. Oh yeah. I'm bad.
Write in third-person & past tense
Try to be as literate as possible. We all have our comfort zones when it comes to writing, but if I catch chatspeak in your IC posts, you get a warning. OOC it's fine.

Don't be a grumpy guss! Turn that frown upside down! Nobody likes an unfriendly member
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. 'Nuff said.
I'm assuming we'll all be well-mannered and and with enough common freaking sense that I don't have to worry about discrimination against age, gender, race, sexual orientation or other popping up on my board. Highlight the below the fifth rule for the pass code. Any of this and you're banned immediately.
No chat-box spam about how your female character needs a love interest two minutes after she's been accepted.
